How we got the idea for?

EarthCare Africa is a prominent Pan-African institute based in Ethiopia, committed to enhancing inter-agency collaboration for environmental policy analysis and monitoring. Since its establishment in 2002, the organization has worked tirelessly to unite policymakers, NGOs, and community groups to address sustainable development challenges across the continent. With a dedicated team and strong partnerships, EarthCare Africa strives to empower Africans to actively engage in global environmental processes and advocate for sustainable livelihoods.

Dr. Mekdes Tadele Woldeyohannes

Dr. Seifu Anberber 

Dr. Seifu Anberber is an environmental engineer and legal professional with over 13 years of experience in teaching in higher education institutions, conducting research, and providing capacity-building training. He obtained his PhD from the University of Ednighbrough, Scotland, and is currently affiliated with Addis Ababa University. Dr. Seifu offers courses and training in Environmental Engineering and Environmental Law at the postgraduate level. He began his academic career at Addis Ababa University in 1980. While working as a lecturer there, he coordinated a project that provided free legal aid services to disadvantaged groups in the community. Dr. Seifu currently works with EarthCare Africa, where he contributes to sustainable development and environmental policy initiatives across the continent.

 

Dr. Mekdes Tadele Woldeyohannes is a legal professional with over 13 years of experience in teaching in higher education institutions, conducting researches, and providing capacity-building training. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of Law at the School of Law and Federalism, Ethiopian Civil Service University, where she offers International Environmental Law and Comparative Environmental Law courses for postgraduate students. Mekdes began her academic career at Bahir Dar University in 2005. While she was working as a lecturer at the university, she coordinated a project that provided free legal aid services for the disadvantaged group of the community.

 

Legal Expert

Tsinu Amdeselassie

With a degree in Law and an MA in Gender Studies, Tsinu has been working as a researcher, gender expert, a lawyer and training facilitator with a particular focus on projects promoting gender equality and transformative leadership. Projects she took part in include, GAVI-Girl Effect’s formative qualitative research for HPV vaccination; Gender and Adolescence Global Evidence Program of the Oversees Development Institute; and Pilot study of MoWCY’s nationwide research on Elimination of Harmful Traditional Practices.  

Researcher and Consultant

Mulugeta Mengist (PhD)

Dr. Mulugeta is a researcher, lecturer and consultant, who in the past served as a consulting director of climate change affairs for the FDRE Office of the Prime Minister. He was a research fellow in climate governance and institutional development in the African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). Prior to joining ACPC in July 2011, he had been teaching law in the School of Law (University of Surrey), where he also completed his PhD. His doctoral research investigated the legal frameworks for regulation of water suppliers in Ethiopia and Kenya.
